As relief efforts continue following the record-setting spring floods in Southern Illinois, residents of Alexander County are encouraged to attend a community meeting today to learn more about buyouts and flood mitigation options.

Illinois Lt. Governor Sheila Simon announced the meeting in recent news release.

"Our community has been greatly impacted by this natural disaster and devastation, but together we are working to overcome these obstacles and learn about options available to the region," Simon said in the release.

Alexander County, in collaboration with Southern Illinois University, the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) and Simon's office, will host an informational meeting and answer questions about ongoing mitigation efforts at 6 p.m. today at the Egyptian School cafeteria, in Tamms, Ill.
