SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Illinois health officials announced 19 new cases of the West Nile virus on Thursday and one more fatality, bringing the death toll from the disease in the state to five.

An 83-year-old woman from northern Cook County who was hospitalized about two weeks ago with West Nile encephalitis died Aug. 28, the Illinois Department of Public Health said. The woman was first reported positive for West Nile virus on Aug. 23.

The total number of human cases in Illinois was 98 with Thursday's announcement.

The new nonfatal cases include two from the city of Chicago.
