The Burlington Northern locomotive train was traveling north near Highway 51 when the driver of a Dodge Intrepid traveling north on the road at McBride's Crossing disregarded the gates and lights and struck the side of an empty train car, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Three cars were derailed, and the car was a total loss.

The driver of the Intrepid, Antonio Hernandez-Oxlaj of Percy, Ill., was uninjured.
