Illinois man charged in Hush Puppy shooting

CAIRO, Ill. -- An Anna, Ill., man is in custody, charged with felony aggravated battery with a firearm and felony aggravated battery Tuesday, said Alexander County Sheriff's Capt. Arnold Burris.

Tyler Jay Baine, 37, is accused of stabbing one man and shooting another at about 4 a.m. Sunday in the Hush Puppy Saloon in McClure, Ill.

Baine turned himself into authorities about 1 a.m. Tuesday, Burris said, after the sheriff's department publicized a search for him. No weapons have been uncovered or turned in by the suspect, he said.

Baine is in custody at the Tri-County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond. He has a Jan. 16 court date in Alexander County circuit court before Judge Mark Clarke, Burris said.

The victims' names were not released by authorities.

McClure-East Cape Fire District was first responder to the scene.

Chief Stanley Mouser said Tuesday that a patron sustained knife cuts on his back and a bouncer at the club was shot in the groin and above his right ankle.

Mouser said there was quite a bit of bleeding from the bouncer's wounds.

"He was lucky there was a paramedic there and another fire district and an Army medic that took care of him," he said.

The bouncer was transported to Saint Francis Medical Center.

The other victim, who had been knifed, refused transport to a hospital, Mouser said.
