MARION, Ill. -- A southern Illinois hospital where a woman was fatally burned during a surgical flash fire says it has adopted new safety procedures, according to WSIL-TV.

The hospital also says all staff members must take mandatory training on fire safety before being allowed in the operating room.

Sixty-five-year-old Janice McCall of Energy, Ill., died Sept. 8 at a Tennessee hospital six days after being burned on the operating table at Heartland.

The hospital has acknowledged the fire happened but won't offer specifics, citing patient confidentiality.
