Due to the ice and heavy snow that fell on the Cape Girardeau area Sunday afternoon and night, the Southeast Missourian experienced considerable difficulties in distributing Monday's edition.
To ensure coverage of Sunday's events gets to Southeast Missourian readers, the Monday edition is being merged with today's newspaper.
The timing and severity of Sunday's storm posed particular problems for the circulation staff of the Southeast Missourian. Some home deliveries were made and a number of racks were serviced, but many subscribers went without a Monday edition.
According to Mark Kneer, circulation and marketing director, most subscribers who called the Missourian circulation department Monday morning were understanding about the situation.
"We appreciate our readers' patience," said Kneer.
Many roads in the area, particular on rural distribution routes, remain in hazardous condition, making delivery of today's product uncertain. Kneer said every effort is being made to facilitate delivery of all newspapers, though the safety of circulation staff is the top consideration.
The news deadline for the Tuesday edition was moved ahead more than an hour to assist the delivery crews.
The storm dumped 8-10 inches of snow on Southeast Missouri, Southern Illinois and Western Kentucky on Sunday.
