CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Charles L. Hutson has assumed duties as president of the Southeast Missouri Hospital Board of Trustees.
Hutson, of Cape Girardeau, is the 27th individual to serve in that position. He succeeds J. Ronald Fischer.
Other officers of the 36-member active board are Stephen N. Limbaugh Jr., first vice president; Dr. Melvin C. Kasten, second vice president, and Max G. Stovall, secretary-treasurer.
Hutson, president of Hutson Furniture Co. here, started his involvement with Southeast Hospital in 1969 when he joined the Hospital Association. He has been a member of the Board of Trustee since 1979, and has served as secretary-treasurer, second vice president and first vice president.
"Getting involved with the hospital was a natural for me," said Hutson. "My father served on the board, my mother is a nurse, and my grandfather practiced medicine 55 years. More importantly, as a member of a progressive community, I owe service to the community. Anyone who makes his living in a community has an obligation to put some of it back."
Hutson is involved in the community. He is currently president of the Cape Girardeau Redevelopment Corp. and vice chairman of Southeast Missouri State University Foundation. He is a member of Boatmen's Bank Board of Directors and Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce. He is also a member of Evening Optimist Club, and Cape County Industrial Development Authority. He is past president of Great Cape and the Downtown Merchants Association.
Hutson and his wife, Judi, are parents of two sons, David and Chris, who are associated with their father in the operation of Hutson's Furniture.
