The Missouri Department of Conservation announced this week that two hunter education classes have been scheduled in Cape Girardeau County.
The Cape Girardeau VFW Post 3838 and Ladies Auxiliary will host a day-long class, Aug. 3, to be held at 1049 N. Kingshighway, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m..
The Jackson Elks Lodge, Route 3, will host a three-night course, Aug. 13, 14, and 15, from 6 to 10 p.m. Attendance at all three sessions is required for certification.
These will be the only courses offered in Cape County prior to the Aug. 31 deadline for firearms any-deer permit applications.
Included in the training will be gun safety, information about firearms and ammunition, the role of the hunter and hunting in wildlife management and conservation, responsibilities of the outdoorsman, outdoor ethics and hunter preparedness.
Those successfully completing the course will receive a Hunter Education certification card from the DOC.
In Missouri, anyone born on or after Jan. 1, 1967 must a have valid hunter education card to buy a hunting permit.
