At the annual meeting of the Missouri East Conference of the United Methodist Church, William Hughes Davault was named Outstanding lay Person of the Cape/Farmington District.
The conference met in Columbia June 10-13, with all ministers and an equal number of lay persons, to conduct the business of the church. At this time and Outstanding Lay Person was recognized from each of the seven districts of the conference.
Davault was recognized for his dedication and service to New McKendree Methodist Church and also for his influence as a public school teacher for 32 years. Twenty-two of those years were in the jackson R-@ District.. Many of his former students still count on him as a mentor, while friends remember the values he taught along with the subject material.
Over the years, Davault has been in much demand as a speaker at civic and church events, such as 4H banquets, prayer breakfasts and patriotic observances.
Davault and his wife Doris have been married 57 years and have two children, Webster Joe of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Suzanna Clippard of Oklahoma City. The Davaults, who have five grandchildren, have lived in Jackson for 43 years.
