CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Staci Huey, a student at Central High School, was among outstanding area high school students participating in the Pillars of Excellence Scholarship competition Jan. 26 at Culver-Stockton College in Canton.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Huey of Cape Girardeau, she is a member of NHS, student council treasurer, and Who's Who. She plans to major in public relations/journalism.

The college will award approximately 10 scholarships. Each full scholarship, if maintained for four years, could total as much as $25,000.

To qualify for competition in the program, students were required to apply and be accepted by the college, and were to meet two of the following qualifications: have a 3.6 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, rank in the upper 10 percent of the graduating class, or score a 26 composite ACT or 1060 SAT.

Competition consisted of a writing exercise and interviews with faculty administration and student representatives.
