House approves $46 million for two University of Missouri buildings

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The Missouri House approves money for new medical buildings at two University of Missouri campuses.

Not a single lawmaker dissented as the House voted Thursday. More than $31 million would go to a cancer hospital at the Columbia campus, and $15 million would go to a pharmacy and nursing complex at the Kansas City campus.

Money for both buildings would come from a pool of $350 million being taken over several years from the Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority.

The Senate still must approve the bill.

Both projects had been included in Gov. Matt Blunt's college construction plan. But Republican senators stripped them out of last year's bill in retaliation against two Democratic senators who had tried to block the legislation.
