Three Southeast
Missouri State University seniors and a faculty member recently
were inducted into the university's Sigma Pi
Sigma Physics Honor Society.
Inducted were Nancy M. Blechle of Perryville, Mark A. Wetzler
of Chaffee, Isaac A. Kunz of Marquand, and Craig
Joseph, assistant professor of astronomy.
The four were inducted during a ceremony April 2 in the
University Center. Joseph was inducted as an honorary member.
Sigma Pi Sigma operates within the framework of Southeast's
chapter of the Society of
Physics Students (SPS). Students inducted into Sigma Pi Sigma are
required to have above a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, and
be in the top 15 percent of
their class.
The local chapter
was founded in 1969. Since then, 55 Southeast
faculty and students have been inducted into Sigma Pi Sigma.
The society is national in scope with chapters based at colleges
and universities across the country. More than 370 of the 550 SPS
chapters now include an active Sigma Pi Sigma chapter. Total
membership is more than 58,000.
