"A Salute to Business" will be the theme for Homecoming '91 at Southeast Missouri State University, Oct. 11-12. "A Salute to Business" will be the theme for Homecoming '91 at Southeast Missouri State University, Oct. 11-12.

"A new focus of this year's festivities is to involve ~businesses in our Homecoming celebration," said Jane Stacy, director of Alumni Services. "We are hoping to see businesses represented in the parade, at the Homecoming luncheon and at the ~post-game party. Many alumni have agreed to serve as their company representatives."

Student Homecoming events will begin earlier that week with a block party scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Oct. 7 in front of Academic Hall. Normal Street will be closed, and food and music will be provided. Members of the Southeast football team also will participate.

On Oct. 8, students will chalk sidewalks across campus as part of a spirit activity dubbed "The Walk of Fame." Also on Oct. 8, "Man and Woman of the Year 1991" candidates will model clothes at a fashion show scheduled for 7 p.m. on the JCPenney stage in West Park Mall.

Red and Black Day is scheduled for Oct. 9. Everyone on campus is urged to don university colors. Voting for "Man and Woman of the Year" also will be held in residence halls and the University Center. A bonfire and barbecue is scheduled for 5 p.m. Oct. 9 at Towers Circle.

Voting will continue on Oct. 10, in addition to a Student Activities Council Comedy Club performance scheduled for 8 p.m. in the University Center Ballroom.

An All-Society Reunion is scheduled for 5:30-7 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Show Me Center. Tickets are $5.

That will be followed by the university's annual Merit Award Dinner scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Show Me Center. Dinner tickets are $12.

This year's recipients and the academic college presenting their awards are: B. Ray Henry, College of Education; W. Eugene Burgess, College of Business Administration; Grace V. Hoover, College of Health and Human Services; J. David and Dale W. Margerum, College of Science and Technology; and William G. Moll, College of Liberal Arts.

Fred Janzow, Southeast associate professor of biology, is this year's recipient of the Faculty Merit Award.

A Brandt acappella choir reunion is slated for 7:30 p.m. Oct. 11 in Brandt Hall, and a University Theatre performance of "Baby with the Bathwater" is scheduled for 8 p.m. Oct. 11 in Rose Theatre. For ticket information, call the University Box Office at (314) 651-2265.

Homecoming events on Oct. 12 will begin with a Copper Dome breakfast scheduled for 7 a.m. in the Show Me Center. The Friend of the University Award will be presented at the event. Tickets are $5. For more information on the breakfast, contact Susan Burton at (314) 651-2203.

The Homecoming parade centered around the theme of "A Salute to Business" will begin at 9 a.m. Oct. 12. The parade will begin on Broadway at Capaha Park and end at Main and Broadway.

An All-Alumni Luncheon will follow at 11:30 a.m. in the Show Me Center. Thomas B. Harte, president of Southeast's National Alumni Council will preside. Tickets are $9.

The luncheon will honor reunion classes of 1931, 1941, 1951, 1961, 1966, 1971 and 1981. Also to be honored will be former Southeast members of societies, including Benton, Clio, Sorosis, Webster, Mark Twain and Hesperian. Other honorees will include former Brandt acappella choir members, and Homecoming Steering Committee members since 1972.

Highlighting Homecoming weekend will be the Southeast vs. Tennessee Tech football game scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Oct. 12 at Houck Field. Game tickets are $7 for reserved seats and $5 for general admission. Southeast's 1991 Man and Woman of the Year will be crowned during a half-time ceremony.

Following the game will be a "Salute to Business" party scheduled for 4-9 p.m. in the Show Me Center. Food, drinks and entertainment will be provided.

Other post-game activities include the "Abe's Boys" former players of Abe Stuber annual dinner to be held at 7 p.m. in the Show Me Center. For more information on the dinner, contact Lynn Thompson at (314) 335-0349.
