The winners of the second annual Holiday of Lights decoration contest were announced on Wednesday by the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce.

More than 60 homes, neighborhoods and businesses entered the contest, sponsored by the Chamber's Beautification Committee.

"We were delighted with the number of entries," said Mary Spell, co-chairperson of the event.

Three winners from each section were chosen by Chamber of Commerce members, who served as judges for the event. The judges selected one commercial entry and two residential entries from each of the seven sections on Monday.

The winners are as follows:

In section one, Ken Voepel Insurance, at 2256 Kingsway Drive was the commercial winner; Mark Matthews, of 1428 Whitener, and Kim Baker, of 132 Louisiana, were the residential winners.

In section two, Glenn House, at 325 Spanish was the commercial winner; Roger and Constance Reed, of 1016 S. Sprigg, and Tom and Dena Nelson, of 1810 Montgomery, were the residential winners.

In section three, St. Francis Medical Center, at 211 St. Francis Dr., was the commercial winner; Imogene and Warren Hastings, of 423 Silver Springs Rd., and Denza and Calvin Mitchell, of 609 Mt. Auburn Rd., were the residential winners.

In section four, Crossroads Shopping Center, at the corner of Kingshighway and Independence, was the commercial winner; Frank and Debra Braxton, of 1315 Ashland Hills, and Rhonda and Charles Seabaugh, of 1115 Hilldale Circle, were the residential winners.

In section five, Cape LaCroix Nursing Home, at 2525 Boutin Dr., was the commercial winner; Bill and Leslie Phillips, of 2505 Horseshoe Ridge, and Homer and Wanda Dickmann, of 2516 Meadow Lane, were the residential winners.

In section six, Westminster Presbyterian Church, at the corner of Perryville Road and Cape Rock Drive, was the commercial winner; Robert and Donna Komorech, of 1717 Bertling, and Theresa and Jim Maurer, of 2924 Bella Vista, were the residential winners.

In section seven, there was no commercial entry; Bob and Joann Fee, of 41 Rivercrest, and Lisa and Steve Windeknecht, of 1452 N. Water, were the residential winners.

Other entries, specially selected for the viewing tour, were Paula and Darryl Huggins, of 2815 Independence, and Leslie Lindy, of 2528 Marsha Kay Dr.

Starting tonight, the Chamber of Commerce Beautification Committee, will sponsor bus tours through Cape Girardeau's "City of Lights." Tours will also be given on Friday and Saturday.

The buses will drive through well-lit neighborhoods and along select avenues in the city. The tour culminates with a tour of the lights in the county park.

Tour buses will depart from the Plaza Galleria at 7 p.m. and return at 8:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at The Fantasticks for $1 prior to the tour.

Those who would like to tour the area in their own cars can use the map published in today's Southeast Missourian or pick up a copy of the map at the Chamber of Commerce office, at 601 N. Kingshighway, during regular business hours.
