DEXTER, Mo. -- The death of a Dexter jail inmate -- a man who had been arrested twice within a week -- is being investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Stoddard County Coroner Greg Mathis said John Q. Adams, 38, was found dead in his cell at 9:18 a.m. Thursday. An autopsy was scheduled to determine the cause of death, Mathis said.
Adams was in the jail after being arrested early Thursday on a warrant charging him with probation violation, said an official of the Dexter Police Department.
A resident of East Oak Street, Adams was arrested about 4 a.m. Dec. 15 at his residence on suspicion of possession of 35 grams or less of marijuana, said a police report. Police apparently had been dispatched to the residence regarding a domestic violence dispute.
Adams' death is the second unusual death in two days in the Dexter area. A 20-year-old man who reportedly moved to Dexter in recent weeks hanged himself in Hagy Cemetery in what was ruled a suicide. Because he was younger than 21, his death and its investigation was being reviewed by the Child Death Investigation Team.
