State Highway 25 reopened shortly before 11 a.m. today as water receded from the intersection of Highways 74, 25 and Route A, Cape Girardeau County Sheriff John Jordan said.

The road closed Tuesday during the record-shattering rainstorm that has flooded thousands of acres of Southeast Missouri. The reopening means residents of Delta and other southwest Cape Girardeau areas now have direct road links to the north, Jordan said. Highway 74 wasn't listed as a closed road on MoDOT's latest update, sent out at 2:15 p.m.

As waters receded in many places inundated by flash flooding from the rains, worries remain about the impact of rising Mississippi River water backing into creeks and drainage ditches as it rises to a 44.5 foot crest Sunday at Cape Girardeau.
