The 12th annual Chemistry Bowl will be held Thursday from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on the Southeast Missouri State University campus.
Organizers are expecting 220 students representing 30 schools to compete.
The competition consists of a 35-question multiple choice test and two lab exercises.
The experiments include acid based titration and qualitative analysis determination.
Contestants are divided into small and large school categories. The top 15 individuals in each category are recognized.
In addition, each school names a four-student team. The top three teams are also honored.
While the students are competing, their teachers will attend a workshop by Al Gotch of the Southeast chemistry department on Hyperchem, a chemistry computer modeling system.
The Chemistry Bowl program is under the direction of Mike Readnour of the chemistry department. Readnour originated the competition at Southeast.
