BENTON -- The Democratic candidate for state representative from the 160th District has more than three times as much money to spend during the last week of the campaign as his Republican opponent.
The campaign finance report for the Committee To Elect Joe Heckemeyer shows the Sikeston Democrat had a balance of $7,403 on Oct. 31.
The report for the Committee To Elect Josh Bill, dated Oct. 27, shows the Sikeston Republican had a balance of $2,224.
Both candidates filed their reports, due seven days before the Nov. 8 election, with the county clerk's office here on Tuesday.
They are seeking to represent a district that contains a large part of Scott County including Sikeston, Miner, Salcedo, Crowder, Vanduser, Bertrand, Blodgett, Benton, New Hamburg, Kelso and about two-thirds of Scott City.
During the reporting period, from 40 days before the Nov. 8 election, Heckemeyer raised $7,112. His expenditures during the period were $4,775.
His total receipts during the campaign have been $21,703 while expenditures were $14,299.
From Oct. 1 to the end of his reporting period, Bill raised $3,100 for his campaign. His expenditures were $2,974 during the same period.
For the entire election campaign, Bill has raised $13,999 while spending $11,774.
The largest contribution to Heckemeyer's campaign has been $1,000 from Citizens for Griffin, the committee for Bob Griffin, speaker of the House.
Committees contributing to Heckemeyer's campaign have been:
-- $550 from Cape Girardeau General Trades, which is the committee for the AFL-CIO Labor Council;
-- $500 from the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys PAC;
-- $250 from Burlington Northern Railroad Co., Missouri Bankers Association, Electrical Workers Voluntary Political, Education & Legislative Fund, Missouri House Democratic Campaign Committee, Philip Morris U.S.A. and Associated General Contractors of Missouri PAC
-- $200 from Missouri AFL-CIO and Missouri Health Care Association;
-- $100 from Missouri Independent Glass Dealers Association, Missouri Restaurant Association and Holden for State Treasurer; while the House Capital Demos Inner Circle gave $50.
Individual contributions to Heckemeyer's campaign have been:
-- $500 from Anheuser-Busch through John Britton & Associates of Jefferson City, John M. Sells of Matthews, Annie Lee Sells Trust of Sikeston and James and Dorothy Giardina of St. Louis;
-- $250 from Brookview Nursing Home of Maryland Heights, Health Care Management Corp. of Florissant, Health Systems of Festus Inc. and Richard Montgomery, both of Sikeston.;
-- $200 from E.E. Carlson Jr. of Jefferson City and Dwight Crader of Sikeston;
-- $150 from Santie Wholesale Oil Co. of Sikeston.
Heckemeyer received a total of $662 from a fish fry and individuals giving $100 or less.
During the reporting period, Bill received $1,200 from individuals giving $100 or less. He received $1,900 from those giving $100 or more.
His largest contribution was $1,000 from Elizabeth Curtis of Charlottesville, Va.
Committees contributing to Bill's campaign were:
-- $250 from Missouri Bankers Association PAC;
-- $200 from American Family PAC and Missouri Insurance Coalition PAC;
-- $150 from Citizens for Lograsso of Blue Springs;
-- $100 from Friends of Mark Richardson, a Republican state representative from Poplar Bluff.
