FERGUSON, Mo. -- The hot, humid weather that has settled over much of Missouri for the past two weeks has claimed the life of a St. Louis County woman.

Authorities say the 65-year-old woman was found dead Thursday in her Ferguson home, where the air conditioner was not working. The victim's name has not been released.

It was the first confirmed heat-related death so far this year on the Missouri side of the St. Louis region. Nine others have been treated for heat-related illnesses in St. Louis County this week, including one person who was hospitalized. In the city of St. Louis, six people have been treated at hospitals for heat-related symptoms.

In 2012, 26 deaths were blamed on the heat in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
