A Bernie, Mo., man who died in a traffic accident Saturday near Malden, Mo., apparently died of a heart attack, causing him to lose control of his vehicle, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.

Billie Brown, 77, died in the head-on collision on County Road 102, one mile west of Malden. The accident occurred at 12:21 p.m. Saturday.

His passenger, Margaret Brown, 74, of Bernie was taken to Dexter Hospital with moderate injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle, William Tally, 65, of Wappapello, Mo., and his passenger, Cody Blagg, 12, of Wappapello both sustained moderate injuries.

According to the patrol, the accident occurred when Brown's vehicle traveled into the path of Tally's vehicle and struck it head-on.

A three-vehicle accident Sunday in Cape Girardeau County resulted in moderate injuries to Nichole Market, 12, of Jackson, Mo. She was taken to Southeast Missouri Hospital.

She was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Kevin Market, 37, of Jackson. He was not injured. His other passengers, Jonathan Market, 15, and Jarid Jones, 14, both of Jackson, had minor injuries.

The drivers of the other vehicles, William Dickerson, 52, of Jackson and Thelma Hotop, 68, of Jackson were not injured.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, the Market vehicle was stopped behind the Hotop vehicle, which was making a left turn. The Dickerson vehicle failed to stop and struck the Market vehicle, forcing it off the road and down an embankment. The Dickerson vehicle then struck the Hotop vehicle, the patrol said.

Dickerson was cited for following too closely.
