State utility regulators are seeking to reduce the company's annual electric revenues by as much as $250 million on grounds that AmerenUE has been earning too much at the expense of its customers.

AmerenUE is challenging the move. The St. Louis-based company is the state's largest electric utility, serving 1.1 million customers in Missouri.

The rate reduction sought by the staff of the Missouri Public Service Commission would result in an 11 percent decrease -- or $7.71 savings -- in the monthly bill of a typical residential customer.
