JACKSON -- The holiday season has many traditions and one of them is food...lots of it. Christmas cookies, candied yams, pumpkin pie, baked ham, turkey and stuffing and other holiday treats help make this time of year especially festive.
Unfortunately for those who may be watching their weight, the holidays can also be extra fattening.
A free seminar on healthful cooking for the holidays is being offered at St. Francis Information Center in Jackson next Thursday from 7-8 p.m.
Susan Mills, a nutrition specialist with the University of Missouri Extension Service, will lead the program, which is part of St. Francis Medical Center's ongoing "Living With Diabetes" community education program.
As part of the program, Mills will present recipe information and provide samples of healthy homemade treats.
Although the program is free, space is limited and preregistration is requested. For more information or to register, call the St. Francis Information Center at 243-5222.
