HAZELWOOD, Mo. (AP) -- The former Ford Motor Company plant in suburban St. Louis is getting new life.
The city of Hazelwood has signed off on a plan to redevelop the old plant into a commercial and industrial site. Mayor T.R. Carr says it will create jobs as well as generate revenue for the city.
The redevelopment plan calls for tax incentives over 25 years to the developer, Panattoni Development. That doesn't sit well with Chris Wright, superintendent of the Hazelwood School District. He says it will be 2040 before the district receives the same revenue from the plant it was getting in 2006.
The 150-plus acre site has been vacant since Ford left two years ago.
