Catherine Hanaway resigned as federal prosecutor for the Eastern District of Missouri effective today, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Justice.
Hanaway was appointed by President George W. Bush. She was previously a speaker in the Missouri House.
The Associated Press reported over the weekend that Hanaway will join a private law firm with former attorney general John Ashcroft.
Michael W. Reap, a 63-year-old St. Louis native and graduate of St. Louis University Law School, will now serve as acting federal prosecutor.
