Gun collector describes robbery in bombing trial

McALESTER, Okla. -- A gun collector testified Wednesday that a man wearing a ski mask and military-style clothing bound him and covered his eyes with duct tape during a robbery that prosecutors say financed the Oklahoma City bombing. Roger E. Moore testified at bombing conspirator Terry Nichols' state murder trial that the gunman took dozens of rifles and handguns, $8,700 in cash, and coins and jewels in the 1994 robbery at his home near Hot Springs, Ark. Moore said he could not identify the gunman but is convinced he was not executed bomber Timothy McVeigh, who had stayed with Moore several times.

Lawmakers, governor get Calif. workers' comp deal

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- California's workers' compensation system, the most expensive in the nation, would get a broad overhaul in a deal reached Wednesday between legislators and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Many details were to be worked out in a legislative committee Wednesday night, but officials said Schwarzenegger succeeded in pushing through two key elements: The bill will not regulate insurance rates, and will allow insurers and employers to select pools of doctors injured workers must use.

Flasher who got attacked by schoolgirls gets prison

PHILADELPHIA -- A man who was tackled and beaten by a group of Roman Catholic schoolgirls after he flashed them outside their high school was sentenced Wednesday to 10 months to two years in prison. Rudy Susando, 25, also was sentenced to five years probation after his release, assistant district attorney Noel Ann DeSantis said. Susando, a native of Indonesia, also might face deportation after his sentence is served, DeSantis said. Susando was arrested Oct. 30 when more than a dozen girls from St. Maria Goretti High School for Girls, with the help of a bystander, chased him and wrestled him to the ground and held him for police. When he resisted, the girls kicked him.

No charges to be brought in liquor deaths of boys

POLSON, Mont. -- Authorities will not bring charges in the deaths of two sixth-graders whose frozen bodies were found in a snowy field after they guzzled large amounts of vodka, investigators said Wednesday. The sheriff's department investigated suspicions that an adult supplied the liquor to Justin Benoist and Frankie Nicolai III, both 11. But authorities have closed the case after failing to find any evidence to charge anyone, the department said Wednesday. Almost from the time their bodies were found March 1, there were claims the boys may have stolen the liquor from area homes.

Girl, 6, found in ravine by road near dead mother

MORENO VALLEY, Calif. -- A 6-year-old girl found in a ravine survived for 10 days on dry noodles and Gatorade while remaining near her dead mother following a car crash, relatives said. Ruby Bustamante was in good condition Wednesday at a hospital where she was recovering from dehydration. Her great-grandfather Bill Cooney said she didn't appear to remember much about the crash in which her mother, 26-year-old Norma Bustamante, was killed. State transportation department workers repairing a road barrier Tuesday found the girl 150 feet down a ravine some 70 miles east of Los Angeles.
