Cp. Callis is the son of Carol Callis of Cape Girardeau and George Callis of Jackson. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1980, and is a member of the U.S. Marine Reserve Unite based in St. Louis.

He is a student at Southeast Missouri State University, and is employed at Sears in Cape Girardeau.

He and his wife Beth were married this past summer. She is an elementary teach in Centerville.

He was deployed in Saudi Arabia Dec. 31 after two weeks of training in the States. Beth Callis said in his letters he asks for trail mix, dried fruit, batteries, magazines and letters from family and friends. "The mail means a lot to him," she said.
