WAPPAPELLO -- The ruffed grouse population is doing fine in the Wappapello Lake area, according to park rangers who conducted a survey recently.
In 1981, a total of 82 ruffed grouse were released at the upper end of the lake.
Although a count figure was not released recently, rangers say the population has increased each year and that portions of Wayne County may soon support harvestable populations of the ruffed grouse.
