CAPE GIRARDEAU - The newly-organized Safe House for Women Inc. will sponsor a community awareness and education workshop Saturday.
The workshop is entitled: "Sometimes You Wish There Was No Place Like Home."
The workshop will be held in the Harrison Room at Southeast Missouri Hospital from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and will be conducted by Cozette Morrow White, a recognized expert in the field of domestic violence. She is executive director of the Rape and Abuse Crisis Service (RACS) of Jefferson City and serves on the board of directors of the Missouri Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
She is a graduate of the University of Texas at Tyler, where she began her work in the field of domestic violence with an internship at the East Texas Crisis Center. She also served RACS as director of children's services and case manager before assuming the director's position.
Prior to joining the Rape and Abuse Crisis Service staff, she was a research associate with a private, not-for-profit company engaged in social science research in the areas of health care and social issues involving women and children. She is also a multi-published researcher in the field of teen pregnancy and teenage sexuality.
According to Pat Strom, president of the Safe House for Women Inc., the workshop is one of the first efforts of the board to educate the community about domestic violence. The workshop is open to the public for the morning session. In the afternoon, White will address the new Safe House board.
To register or for additional information about the workshop, persons may call 651-5549.
