Meeting at the Elks Lodge will be a thing of the past for American Legion members of Louis K. Juden Post 63.

Post commander John Powers said he has been storing the flags in his garage since May while the post has been without its own meeting place.

Ground was broken for the new building at 2731 Thomas Drive in Cape Girardeau on July 8. Adjutant Burt Lehman coordinated the ceremony attended by Post 63 and Unit 63 Auxiliary members. The building should be completed by December.

Present at the groundbreaking were John "Doc" Yallaly, Jim Drury, Narvol Randol, Lloyd Young, Tom Giles, post commander John Powers, Mayor Jay Knudtson, Iola Amelunke, department commander Clark Pointer representing the American Legion Department of Missouri, Lory Stahly, Freida Howard, Greg Jansen, Floyd Smith, Melvin Amelunke, Chet Powers and Barbara Yallaly American Legion Auxiliary District 14 representative for Cape Girardeau Veterans Home.
