Greyhound fires driver who stranded passengers in Southeast Missouri

ST. LOUIS -- A Greyhound bus driver who abandoned her bus and its passengers last month has been fired by the parent company.

KSDK-TV reported the unidentified driver was terminated for not following company protocol.

The bus was carrying 45 passengers to St. Louis from Memphis, Tenn., on Nov. 18 when the driver pulled to the side of Interstate 55 two hours south of St. Louis and announced she was leaving.

She eventually returned to the bus and drove to a service station near Charleston off I-55 around midnight, then left for good.

Another bus driver didn't arrive to retrieve the passengers until about eight hours later.

The bus passengers eventually arrived in St. Louis about 11 a.m., nearly 10 hours after their scheduled arrival time.
