The Center for Regional History at Southeast Missouri State University is holding a "Great Books 2001" program from 2-4 p.m. on Thursdays in the Hirsch Room of the Cape Girardeau Public Library. The schedule:

Nov. 15: James Ronda, "Lewis & Clark Among the Indians."

Scott City Kiwanis dinner Oct. 20
The Scott City Kiwanis Club will hold an all-you-can-eat chicken and dumplings dinner from 4-7 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Midtown Cafe in Scott City. The dinner will include slaw, green beans, rolls, and dessert. Tea and coffee will be furnished by the Midtown Cafe, and dessert by Kiwanis members. Cost is $4 for adults and $2.50 for children.
'Independently Speaking' topic on blind services
The next guest on "Independently Speaking" will be Bill Cobb of Rehab Services for the Blind. He will speak about services offered by his agency. The program will air on WDKA-TV (cable channel 17) at 5:30 a.m. Oct. 14 and on cable access channel 5 at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Oct. 23.
Knights of Columbus drive Oct. 12-14
Knights of Columbus Mental Retardation fund drive
"Assist those in need -- It's a sweet thing" will be the theme of a fund drive Oct. 12-14 conducted by Council 1111 of the Knights of Columbus in Cape Girardeau. It will be the 29th annual fund-raising drive conducted for mentally retarded citizens.
