Hundreds of students will graduate from area high schools in the coming weeks. Advance High School is the first to hold its graduation ceremonies on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
Twenty-nine seniors will be addressed by graduation speaker Coach Eddie Dunivan, the school's athletic director.
Other high school graduation ceremonies in Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois are scheduled as follows:
Friday: Woodland High School in Marble Hill and Zalma High School.
The Rev. Fred Ritter of Marble Hill will give the commencement speech at Woodland High School's graduation ceremony Friday at 8 p.m. Other speakers include the class president, valedictorian, salutatorian and president of the Beta Club. A total of 57 seniors will graduate.
At Zalma, 24 seniors will receive their degrees at 7:30 p.m. in the high school gym. The commencement speaker will be Tenny Baker, a teacher.
Saturday: Meridian High School in Mounds, Ill.
Fifty-four seniors will graduate from Meridian High School, said Principal Waymon Butler. The commencement begins at 10 a.m. in the high school gym. Norma Ewing, a professor of special education at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale will be the speaker.
Sunday: Jackson High School, Oran High School, Chaffee High School.
Ray Haring, social studies instructor at Jackson High School, will give the commencement address for the 2 p.m. ceremony. Principal Vernon Huck said 255 seniors will receive their degrees.
Graduation will be held in the football stadium, and in case of rain, in the field house. Presentation of diplomas will be by Jack Knowlan Jr., school board president.
At Oran, 15 seniors will graduate, with the commencement address being given by the Rev. Mark McDaniel. The ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. in the high school gym.
At Chaffee, the graduation ceremony will be at 7 p.m. at the school. The Rev. William Marshal of Chaffee will deliver the commencement address to 41 seniors.
May 21: Meadow Heights High School in Patton and Delta High School.
Twenty-five seniors will graduate from Meadow Heights High School this year. The speaker for the 7:30 p.m. ceremony is Robert Fulton.
At Delta High School, the graduation ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. The class valedictorian will speak.
May 22: Notre Dame High School, Scott City, Oak Ridge, St. Vincent at Perryville, Perryville High School, Egyptian High School in Tamms, Ill.
The Rev. Christopher Robinson will give the commencement address at Notre Dame High School in Cape Girardeau. Fifty-seven students will graduate at the 7 p.m. ceremony.
A graduation Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on May 21, and an awards ceremony for students of all grades is scheduled May 22 at 9:15 a.m. in the high school gym.
At Scott City High School, 65 seniors will graduate at a 7:30 p.m. ceremony. The class valedictorian and salutatorian will speak.
Missouri Sen. Jerry T. Howard will give the commencement address at Oak Ridge High School. Twenty-one students will graduate at the 8 p.m. ceremony in the school gym.
At St. Vincent High School in Perryville, Secretary of State Roy Blunt will give the commencement address at the 7:30 p.m. ceremony. A total of 28 seniors will receive their degrees. A graduation Mass will be celebrated that morning at 10 a.m.
At Perryville High School, 178 students will graduate. The ceremony begins at 8 p.m. on the football field. The commencement speaker's name has not yet been released, according to school officials.
Thirty-five seniors will graduate from Egyptian High School in Tamms. The class valedictorian and salutatorian will speak at the 6:30 p.m. ceremony.
May 28: Scott County Central High School in Morley.
Thirty-one students will graduate at an 8 p.m. ceremony in the high school gym. The speaker's name has not been released.
May 29: Kelly High School in Benton, Anna-Jonesboro High School.
The valedictorian and salutatorian at Kelly High School will give a commencement addresses at an 8 p.m. ceremony in the high school gym. Fifty-nine students will receive degrees.
Graduation ceremonies at Anna-Jonesboro High School will begin at 8 p.m. on the high school football field. In case of rain, the ceremony will be held in the gym.
May 31: Cairo High School, Shawnee High School.
At Cairo High School, 65 students will receive degrees during a 3 p.m. ceremony in the high school gym. Commencement speaker is Larry Baldwin, a former Cairo teacher who now resides in Michigan.
Forty-one students will graduate from Shawnee High School during a 4 p.m. ceremony in the high school gym. The class valedictorian and salutatorian will give commencement addresses.
June 5: Cape Girardeau Central High School.
Nationally syndicated radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh III will deliver the commencement speech at Cape Central High School. The ceremony begins at 8 p.m. at the Show Me Center. Receiving degrees will be 284 seniors.
Limbaugh, a Central alumnus, was also the commencement speaker in 1989.
