A drama unfolded Dec. 16, 1971, in Uniontown as workers from Miners Lumber Co., Perryville, and Penzel Construction Co., Jackson, struggled to remove the steeple of the Grace Lutheran Church from its roof, after the church was struck by a tornado the day before. The interior was not damaged in the early morning storm, but it was feared the steeple might crash through the ceiling. Workers attached a heavy cable to the steeple and, using 25-ton crane, lifted it from the roof and placed it safely on the ground. These photographs were not published in 1971, and the persons pictured in them are unidentified.
