WARE, Ill. -- Waterfowl hunters in Southern Illinois have harvested more than 24,000 Canada geese in the four-county Alexander, Union, Williamson and Jackson quota zone since the season opened in mid-November.
The harvest during the first 56 days of the season has averaged 429 a day, which is up from the average of 285 a day during the first 30 days.
Hunters in Alexander County have harvested 6,040 geese in the Horseshoe Lake area. A total of 5,730 geese have been harvested in Union County, and 12,273 geese have been harvested in the Crab Orchard Lake ares in Williamson and Jackson counties.
Goose hunting has been reported "pretty good" over the past month.
