Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will celebrate its 30th anniversary Feb. 8 with special services and a banquet.

Morning praise services will be held at 7:30 and 10 a.m. Special music will be performed at both services.

The celebration's theme is "God Building People."

"Our 30th anniversary celebration has incorporated the 'God Building People' theme of our current building program," said the Rev. Barry Pfanstiel, pastor. "While we certainly look back over the past 30 years of ministry, we will also be looking ahead to the next era of our ministry. Therefore, this anniversary celebration is for us all -- charter members, longtime members, newer members and younger members, too."

A celebration banquet will follow the worship services. Reservations are being taken through Feb. 4 for the dinner at Drury Lodge. Members may contact the office for reservations. Walter Loeber, founding pastor of the church, will be the guest speaker.

A slide presentation of the church's history also will be presented.

Good Shepherd Lutheran Chapel, as it was originally called, is the result of work between the Joint Lutheran Council of Cape Girardeau, Trinity, St. Andrew and Hanover Lutheran churches.

The first service was held New Year's Day 1967 in a building across the street from the church's present location, 1904 W. Cape Rock Drive.

More than 200 people signed the charter in 1967. Current membership is about 450 people.
