Don Bouge shared his experiences in being an extra on the set of 'Gone Girl'. This Q&A is a part of a project with the Southeast Missourian and rustmedia. Coming soon: Video interviews with several of the extras. This is one of several stories to be published online.
__What role did you have in the movie's production?__
I was an extra. I was in the scene that played the rescue mission looking for Nick Dunne's wife. It took place at the Drury Inn. I took several takes standing right behind Neil Patrick Harris. In fact, I was in one of the recent trailers that came out.
__What kind of communication did you have with "Gone Girl" staffers? What were they like?:__ Great. Everyone was super nice.
__Did you get to speak to any of the actors? If so, which one and what was the conversation like?:__
Yes. Neil Patrick Harris. I took several takes standing right behind him for the whole shoot. He showed me from his smart phone of his kids riding their bikes down the sidewalk and telling jokes along the way. He was very cool guy.
__If you were an extra, how much time did you spend at the shoot?:__ I arrived there at 6 in the morning and did not leave until 9 that night.
__What scenes did you participate in?:__
I was in the scene of the rescue mission to help find his wife Amy that went missing. The shoot took place at the Drury Inn.
__Did anything about your interactions with crew or about the production surprise you? If so, what?:__ Just the production of it all. It was really neat to watch and be a part of it.
__What are you most looking forward to most about the movie?:__ The ending of it. I have not read the book, and of course seeing myself on the big screen.
__What else would you like to share about your experience with the filming of "Gone Girl" in Cape Girardeau?:__
It was a great experience. I would say to anyone thinking about doing something like this go for it. One for the bucket list.
