Robert Dixon of Glenallen was honored for outstanding service to University Extension at the 1996 Legislative Day, Feb. 27 in Jefferson City. The annual event is sponsored by the University of Missouri Alumni Alliance Association.
Dixon received the Presidential Citation from UM President George Russell, who told the 400 legislators, UM alumni and extension council members gathered for the event, "We're here because we share an interest and belief in the role of higher education in society." He said those being honored had "distinguished themselves with extraordinary support for the University of Missouri."
Dixon serves as a chairman of the Regional Advisory Council for University Extension and is a regional representative to the Missouri Extension County Council Leadership Conference. The MECCLC serves as a link between county councils and University Outreach and Extension leadership. Dixon also serves on the Bollinger County University Extension Council and has held the offices of chairman, vice chairman and secretary. He was a key player in restoring funding to reopen the Bollinger County extension center after it had been closed for several years. Dixon is also a member of the Value-Added Agriculture Focus Team, one of eight teams formed statewide to develop educational programs to meet citizens' self-identified needs.
In accepting this citation, Dixon emphasized that education is a team effort. "As a team player, whatever your position, it is important that we recognize the value of the people we work with. It takes everyone to make a team a success. That is why I am dedicated to the success of extension and education as a whole."
In addition to his extension activities, Dixon is a member of the Missouri's Cattlemen's Association, Farm Bureau, and the state and national forest products association.
