Gleeson to run a fourth time for alderman position

Jackson's municipal elections in April will have at least one race for a Board of Aldermen seat.

Thomas P. Gleeson III has filed for a two-year term in Ward 4 against incumbent Joe Baker.

This will be Gleeson's fourth time running for an aldermen position in the 30 years he has lived in Jackson. The last time he ran was in 1986.

Gleeson has interests in developing Jackson's industrial park on U.S. 61 and building a new fire substation.

"Jackson's been good to me, and I have a lot of good ideas that I would like to pass on to the city," Gleeson said.

Baker has been on the Board of Aldermen since 1989.

Baker filed for re-election on Dec. 13, the first day to file. His interests for running include the development of more businesses in Jackson.

"There are several projects I'd like to see get done, such as the East Main Street extension," said Baker, a 29-year resident of Jackson. "I really enjoy serving my ward."

Three more aldermen seats will expire in April and have no competition for the incumbents, who have all filed for re-election.

The terms include Ward 2 alderman David Reiminger, a 12-year member of the board; Ward 3 alderman Larry Cunningham, a nine-year member of the board and Ward 1 alderman Barbara Lohr, a four-year member of the board.

Two seats on Jackson's Board of Education will also expire in April. Only incumbents Cathy Goodman and Brent Wills have filed for the three-year terms on the school board.

The filing period ends at 5 p.m. Jan. 17. The elections will be April 4.
