GIRLS SOFTBALL PLAYS OUT IN SUMMER ACTIVITIES

The Rockies played the Cubs at Jackson City Park in recent 12 and under girls softball summer league action.

Cubs coach Mike Holzum said the league stresses safety.

He said the "special equipment we've purchased includes knee savers and a fully flexible catching helmet that's designed to take shock."

Cubs coach Joan Sanders remarked on the team's pitcher, Sheila Wade, that "Sheila's got a lot of power."

So far the Cubs have won six and lost two.

The coaches for the Rockies are Becky Klob and Dan Tuschhoff. Nikki Tuschhoff pitches for the team.
