ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) -- Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich will speak twice in October at Missouri Western State University.

His first speech is scheduled during an Oct. 6 dinner, and his second speech will be delivered the next morning.

His appearances will coincide with the annual Convocation on Critical Issues at the St. Joseph school.

The former lawmaker from Georgia was a key conductor of the GOP's takeover of the U.S. House in 1994.

MWSU foundation official Dan Nicoson said in a news release that Gingrich continues the event's "tradition of bringing nationally prominent speakers and thinkers to campus."
