The National Geographic Society is holding its 10th annual National Geography Bee for students in the fourth through eighth grades. Sponsorship is being provided by Sylvan Learning Centers.
First-round regional competition will be held at 8:30 a.m. today at the Jackson Middle School band room. The winner of the Jackson Middle School bee will advance to the next level of competition, a written examination.
All school winners are eligible to win the national championship at competition May 19 and 20 in Washington. First prize for the national winner is a $25,000 college scholarship.
