The Gash/Voigt Dance Theatre of St. Louis will hold a workshop and perform original works Sept. 26 at 8 p.m. in the Academic Auditorium at Southeast Missouri State University.
There will also be a showing of the Theatre's video "Spirits of the Land" in the Academic Auditorium Sept. 25 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The Gash/Voigt Dance Theatre, based in St. Louis, was founded in 1985 by Susan Gash and Beckah Voigt. Gash has systematically explored human movement and its expressive qualities while Voigt's talents explore characterization.
Together, with two other women, they form the core of the Gash/Voigt Dance Theatre.
Gash/Voigt collaborates with internationally acclaimed composers, visual artists, writers and performers to create such productions as "Sanctuary", Landscapes and Desires," "Spirits of the Land," and their latest work, "Unheard Voices."
This unique combination of creative elements makes movement the signature feature of Gash/Voigt Dance Theatre. Viewers will get an impression of a moving picture. The movement is used to achieve characterization and evoke feelings.
"Spirits of the Land" is an award-winning video collaboration featuring the Gash/Voigt Dance Theatre of St. Louis, California composer Jim Newton and St. Louis videographer Michael Fioretti.
"Spirits of the Land," which is shot on location at two Missouri state parks, reveals the relationship of human form and natural landscapes.
Tickets for each event are $4 for the general public and $2 for those under 18 or over 60. Admission is free with a valid Southeast Missouri State University identification.
