A propane leak at a packaging company near Jackson was contained at around 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, according to East County Fire Protection District chief Dwayne Kirchhoff.

The Fruitland Fire Department was called out to assist East County at around 8:45 p.m. at Nordenia USA Inc. where a 30,000 gallon propane tank was leaking.

A portion of Highway 177 near the plant is closed to traffic while crews investigate the scene. Kirchhoff said they should have the highway open by 10:15 p.m.

Crews stopped the leak when they gained access to the tank and shut off a valve.

Nordenia is a plant in Jackson that produces flexible packaging and product components for a number of industrial sectors.
