Authorities in the field of horticulture will highlight the program of a garden symposium for the public to be held at the Cape Girardeau Vocational-Technical School Feb. 29.
The Jackson Men's Garden Club is presenting the seminar, and all but one of the talks will be given by club members.
The seminar begins at 8:45 a.m. and wraps up at 4:30 p.m. Each session will last 50 minutes. Ferd Sturm will be moderator.
The program includes:
8:45 a.m. Introduction and outline of the program by Ben Kight.
9 a.m. Charles Korns, professor of horticulture, Southeast Missouri State University, "Annual Flowers."
10:05 a.m. Charles Knote, registered professional entomologist, "Safe Insect and Weed Control for Gardens."
11:05 a.m. Harry Bertrand, owner of Pioneer Nursery and horticulture instructor at Cape Vocational School, "Landscaping and Lawn Care."
1:15 p.m. Introduction of special guests, James McHaney, president of Jackson Men's Garden Club.
1:30 p.m. Al Roderick, floral designer for a wholesale floral company, "Flower Arranging for All Seasons."
2:35 p.m. O.D. Niswonger, owner of Cape Iris Gardens and internationally known iris hybridizer, "Growing Special Iris."
3:35 p.m. Ben Kight, rose grower, American Rose Society Horticulture judge and consulting rosarian, "Starting Out Right with Roses."
