Cape Girardeau police stop traffic Wednesday for the funeral procession of former police chief Henry H. Gerecke on North Kingshighway at Lexington Avenue in Cape Girardeau. Police chief Wes Blair decided recently to discontinue most funeral escorts with the exception of funeral processions of 40 cars or more, as well as funerals for law-enforcement officials and firefighters killed in the line of duty and dignitaries.
