Southeast Missouri State University will tee up Homecoming 1994 with the first phase of its international theme, "Kickin' It Across The Globe," during a block party from 5-9 p.m. today.
Students who gather for the party at Academic Square will receive free food, meet candidates for Man and Woman of the Year and have an opportunity to win prizes donated by area businesses.
Winners of the "Paint the Town" contest will be announced during the block party, which will be held on Normal Street between Academic Hall and Kent Library.
Student organizations painted storefront windows of merchants along the parade route Sunday and Monday afternoons. The windows will remain painted until Monday.
First-place winners receive $100, second place picks up $60 and third place $40.
Spirit Activity Coordinator Heather McAdoo said there were 11 entries in this year's "Paint the Town" competition, an increase of five over last year's contest.
On Wednesday voting for Man and Woman of the Year will begin. Lunches and dinners will be served at Dearmont, Greek and Towers dormitories.
On Thursday voting will conclude for Man and Woman of the Year. The day will culminate in a Man and Woman of the Year and Faculty and Staff Appreciation Dinner at the Show Me Center at 7 p.m.
Saturday's activities include a parade, which will leave Capaha Park at 9 a.m.
The Homecoming football game between Southeast Missouri State and Austin Peay University will begin at 2 p.m. Presentation of Man and Woman of the Year will be made at halftime.

Homecoming will feature an International Bazaar from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday outside Houck Stadium. The department of foreign languages and the German Club will sell bratwurst and German side dishes at the bazaar. Other groups, such as Chinese, Malaysian, Turkish and Japanese student associations, will sell food and arts and crafts at the bazaar.
In addition there will be an International Marketplace luncheon for all alumni and guests at the Show Me Center Saturday. Alumni and guests will sit down to such diverse fare as beans Piaz, oriental flank steak, rice pilaf and chick peas at the luncheon. Tickets for the luncheon are available for $12 each from alumni services or by calling 651-2259.
