A petition for the incorporation of Fruitland as a fourth-class city will be presented to the Cape Girardeau County Commission during its Monday meeting.
Charlie Herbst, associate commissioner for District 2, said the petition was received Wednesday in the county clerk's office. He expects Brinda Luttrull of Fruitland to formally ask for it to be processed and certified.
But Herbst doesn't foresee any official action being taken Monday. "We're still in the process of verifying names and addresses," he said. "There's a lot of due diligence involved before the petition can be certified."
In May the county commission voted to decline a petition to incorporate Fruitland as a village after a months-long process. Luttrull was one of three Fruitland petitioners present at that May meeting.
The county commission will meet at 9 a.m. Monday on the third floor of the Cape Girardeau County Administration Building in Jackson.
