CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Jeremy Ryan Freeman of Cape Girardeau was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout last month at the Southeast Missouri Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Court of Honor.
To earn this highest award in scouting, Freeman earned 24 merit badges, served in several troop leadership positions and completed a service project.
For his project, Freeman planned and constructed a bluebird trail on property owned by the Elks Lodge of Cape Girardeau. Freeman and several fellow scouts built 21 birdhouses, designed for eastern bluebirds, and erected them on the Elks property.
A member of Troop 2, sponsored by Grace United Methodist Church, Freeman has been active in scouting since 1984. He earned the Arrow of Light Award and has served his troop as senior patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, patrol leader, and assistant patrol leader. He is a member of the Order of the Arrow.
Freeman is an eighth-grade student at Cape Central Junior High. A member of the Beta Club, he has been on the A honor roll for all quarters of both his seventh- and eighth-grade years. He earned a letter on this past season's Central Junior High football team.
He is also a member of the First Christian Church and is the son of Kent and Ann Freeman of Cape Girardeau.
