Fredericktown man to run as write-in for 8th District seat

FREDERICKTOWN, Mo. -- Thomas Brown failed to get on the ballot as an independent candidate for the 8th Congressional District election in June. Now he's filed paperwork to be a write-in candidate.

"I went to Jefferson City a week ago and filled out the papers to have my name added to the candidates as a write-in," Brown said in a Facebook message. "It will not appear on the ballot, but I still feel I have the best plan."

Brown said he worked hard and visited every county as he drove more than 3,000 miles in two weeks.

He needed 6,009 verified signatures from throughout the 8th District. He received 2,900, but was turned down only five times. That was enough to convince Brown to run as a write-in.

"Many places such as subdivisions and neighborhoods wouldn't allow soliciting in their area," Brown said.

Brown is a retired teacher and coach who lives in Fredericktown.
