The Make-A-Wish Foundation and two Southeast Missouri State University student groups will be collect coins and other contributions today at the Kala M. Stroup Fountain on campus.

The fund raiser in front of Kent Library is designed to help make a dream come true for a terminally ill 3-year-old girl from Cape Girardeau County.

Members of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and Sigma Nu fraternity will sit in the fountain from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Gift certificates from various restaurants will be raffled.

"We are more than pleased with the tremendous amount of support from the community," said Jenny Lane of Alpha Delta Pi.

Sigma Nu's Brad Wolf said, "Sitting in the fountain is an opportunity to get everyone on campus and in the surrounding region to help a young girl's dreams come true."

A volunteer from Make-A-Wish also will attend the fund raiser.

Make-A-Wish grants wishes to children between the ages of 2 1/2 and 18 who have been diagnosed with a terminal illness or life-threatening medical condition.

Arla Price, executive director of the Make-A-Wish Foundation office in Springfield, said the organization won't identify the girl who will benefit from the fund raiser.

Price said the Missouri Division of Family Services requested the girl's identity be kept secret.

This is the second year Sigma Nu has used the fountain to raise money for charity. Last year, the fraternity raised nearly $1,000 for victims of the Columbine High School shootings
